CEMIS
CEMIS (Centre for Measurement and Information Systems) is a joint contract-based centre of the Universities of Oulu and Jyväskylä, the Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and CSC – IT Centre for Science Ltd, specialised in research and training in the field of measurement and information systems.
The main areas of our operations are measurement and testing services for the cleantech sector and for the needs of exercise, well-being and healthcare, as well as the development of new business operations for the international market on the basis of selected solutions together with our partners. In the cleantech sector, we have solid expertise in online measurement solutions in the process industry, especially in the bioeconomy and extraction industry and environmental monitoring. In the area of exercise, wellbeing and healthcare, we utilise especially new sensor solutions and game and simulator solutions.
The role of data, data analytics and AI is growing in our operations in several areas. We play a key role in the Kajaani data ecosystem, which is currently being expanded with the LUMI EuroHPC data centre, a supercomputer that is among the most efficient in the world.
CEMIS employs almost 100 experts in measurement and information systems. The annual funding of the centre if over EUR 12 million.
Services
CEMIS implements research, development and innovation services (RDI) together with research institutes and enterprises. The method of implementation is mainly cost-shared projects. In addition, services are offered as enterprise-specific assignments, technology and market surveys, and theses. CEMIS has constantly about 30 ongoing RDI projects.
CEMIS offers analysing and testing services as direct assignments for the business life. The service research includes, analytics, processing, consultation, and hiring of equipment and facilities.
CEMIS caters for the development and testing needs for product development, manufacturing and operating stages. In addition to product testing, the services enable manufacture and testing of proto series and documentation of the test results.
3D design software and simulation tools are used in support of product development. For the mechanical design, the Kajaani University of Applied Sciences uses two printers for 3D modelling. That way, a printout is rapidly produced of the product and it can be studied in practice. In addition, the mechanics proto workshop provides an opportunity to manufacture objects and assemblies designed by KAMK and customers.
