Biotic forest damages are an emerging problem in boreal forests. Global warming is increasing the expansion of bark beetle outbreaks across Europe and globally, destroying tens of thousands of square kilometers of woodlands. This affects to the whole timber industry leading to vast damages and causing serious disturbances to timber markets in whole Europe. Itä- ja Pohjois-Suomen ELMO-klusteriseminaarien sarja jatkuu 2.–3.12.2020 teemalla ”Klusterin johtaminen – esimerkkinä teollinen kiertotalous. Itä- ja Pohjois-Suomen alueella huolehditaan luonnonvarojen kestävästä ja resurssitehokkaasta jalostamisesta. Teollisten sivuvirtojen tehokkaampi hallinta ja hyödyntäminen luo edellytyksiä kestävälle kasvulle sekä uudelle yritystoiminnalle. Itä- ja Pohjois-Suomen ELMO-yhteistyökumppanit ja EU-toimisto järjestivät kesällä 2020 sarjan webinaareja, jotka käsittelivät Euroopan vihreän kehityksen ohjelman (Green Deal) alla julkaistuja asiakirjoja. Webinaarisarjamme jatkuu joulukuussa vielä yhdellä osalla, jossa tarkastelussa on metsäbiotalous Green Dealin jälkeen. EU:n ohjausvaikutus Suomen metsien hyödyntämiseen on laajaa. EU:ssa ei ole kohdennettua metsäpolitiikkaa, mutta vaikutus muodostuu sääntelystä eri politiikkasektoreilla, jotka heijastuvat mm. metsänhoitoon, maankäyttöön, raaka-aineiden jalostamiseen ja tuotteiden hyödyntämiseen.
