Active Life Lab

The services of Active Life Lab enable the measurement of the effectiveness of the promotion of health and wellbeing in different ways. The service provision of the platform includes digital and expert services for the needs of businesses and RDI organisations.

The services of Active Life Lab enable the measurement of the effectiveness of the promotion of health and wellbeing in different ways. The service provision of the platform includes digital and expert services for the needs of businesses and RDI organisations.

Active Life Lab is a research unit of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences based in the Saimaa Stadium in Mikkeli, which offers research and development services for the development the effectiveness of wellbeing services.

The service provision of Active Life Lab includes the digital services Hyviö and HyviöPRO, which can also be combined with tailored expert services (HyviöPRO custom). In addition, the service provisions also includes the option of subscribing to the services of the wellbeing laboratory as a partnership of Active Life Lab and the implementation of various health and wellbeing related studies as commissioned research.

The unit carries on diverse cooperation with wellbeing businesses and other actors. In addition, the laboratory serves as a learning environment for several training programmes of the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences, such as the Bachelor of Business Administration programme in Wellbeing Management.

Act Life Lab has a smart gym, a test laboratory and a virtual reality space at its disposal. With the laboratory technology, it is possible the measure and monitor a person’s wellbeing and health in a diverse way as remote monitoring and with laboratory condition studies.

Services and available equipment

Services

Hyviö is a consumer app for establishing your own state of wellbeing by answering questionnaires. The person responds to questionnaires concerning their own wellbeing and health and receives feedback on them. The user can monitor the development of their own wellbeing with a free app.

HyviöPRO is an online service aimed at businesses, experts and researchers for authorisation, collecting and monitoring of wellbeing data. The service enables conducting validated questionnaires with the study group. Reports can be created from wellbeing data for end users. Currently, there is a limited number of questionnaires in use.

HyviöPRO custom enables tailoring of the HyviöPRO app to various projects or research purposes where the questionnaires are determined on the basis of research questions.

Active Life Lab partnership provides the customers of business and organisations with laboratory research expertise, technology and the use of the facilities for an annual fee. The service includes the use of the Smart Gym of the laboratory, including measuring devices, as well as training in the use of methods and devices. The service also includes expert support in the development and productisation of the subscriber’s services.

In Commissioned Research,  the operating model of Active Life Lab enables extensive and rapid collection of data. The Smart Gym of the laboratory is used, e.g. in lifestyle counselling for public healthcare customer groups. Active Life Lab has also carried out commissioned research, e.g. for the following organisations: SuperPark, Yolife & AMAMed.

 

Equipment

Active Life Lab uses diverse and modern technology to measure and promote human wellbeing. The majority of the technology is located in the Smart Gym of the laboratory, including, e.g.

GYM

With HUR gym equipment operating on compressed air technology, both training and its monitoring is effort-free. Customers will have their personal training programme, according to which the equipment is adjusted automatically. The equipment also record data on training and development. The gym also has diverse Precor equipment for aerobic training.

TESTING LABORATORY

Research-based wellbeing measurements. Human wellbeing can be measured and monitored at the laboratory in a diverse way. We are using validated measuring methods, e.g. body composition, aerobic and muscle fitness, arterial stiffness and blood pressure, heart rate variability, agility test, and direct VO2Max test. In addition, the Motek C-Mill vr treadmill provides a unique possibility for gait analyses and rehabilitation.

GAME AREA

Functional games offer a low threshold for taking part in exercise while developing cognitive skills, reaction time and balance in addition to physical fitness. Some of the game contents are developed by Active Life, and the game area is used in product development and research. The area includes, e.g. games and exercises controlled by a power disc, cognition wheel, virtual reality games, and an interactive nature walk.
