The battery and precipitation laboratories have modern facilities from continuously operated precipitation of battery chemicals to lithiation and electrochemical testing of battery cells. The battery and precipitation laboratory offers businesses a unique environment for advanced research and development battery materials. The laboratory has modern facilities from the manufacture of battery materials to electrochemical testing of battery cells. In the laboratories, businesses are supported by the strong theoretic competence in battery and precipitation chemistry and long-term practical expertise of the research staff of the University of Oulu / Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius.

The precipitation laboratory enables manufacture of new battery chemicals, especially continuously operated precipitation of cathode precursors and the necessary analytics. Heat treatment and lithiation of materials are carried out in an high temperature oven under strictly controlled conditions. For the manufacture and characterisation of battery cells, there is a battery laboratory with a dry room with appropriate equipment and devices. The laboratory includes equipment, e.g. for mixing of paste, coating of electrodes, assembly of the battery cell, and electrochemical testing of the cells. It is possible to manufacture and test both button and pouch cells in the laboratory. The manufacture and testing of cells can be tailored according to the customer’s needs and, if necessary, testing can be carried out in climate chambers.

The environment has been developed for the research and development operations of universities and businesses. Research services in battery materials are offered by the University of Oulu / Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius.
