Photonics Finland maintains international relations and aims to create networks with the photonics clusters and photonics platforms of other countries. The task of Photonics Finland is to make sure that the photonics sector has the preconditions for success in Finland.

Photonics Finland has more than 80 corporate and community members, including photonics companies, enterprises utilising photonics, as well as research and training organisations. The measures of Photonics Finland focus on wide utilisation of photonics in different industrial sectors. One of the key measures are so-called “Photonics for X” events where photonics and the industry utilising photonics meet each other. A good example is the Forest & Photonics event.

Photonics is a branch of science focusing on the production, processing and studying of light, offering solutions for several near-future global challenges. Photonics application areas are unlimited, covering the electronics industry, the energy sector, as well as medical, healthcare and food industry applications.

Photonics Finland operates in close cooperation with the photonics flagship programme PREIN (https://prein.fi/). The flagship programme supports high-standard research and the originating extensive impact for creating future expertise and sustainable solutions for social challenges and promoting financial growth by developing, e.g. new business opportunities. The PREIN flagship combines the leading-edge expertise and players of the Finnish photonics value chain in order to strengthen research and to develop and commercialise breakthrough technologies. The diverse cooperation network of the flagship enables smooth transfer of research results forward for the creation of innovative products.
