Vuokatti Nordic skiing research, testing and training environment
The Vuokatti Nordic skiing research, testing and training environment produces research and testing services in the sports and wellbeing technology
The service is aimed at sports or wellbeing technology companies and for Nordic skiing teams (e.g. international and national teams). The service is produced by the University of Jyväskylä and Vuokatti Sport.
The objective of research by the international level sport technology and biology of physical activity health sciences (biomechanics, training and testing, and exercise physiology) of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences of the University of Jyväskylä is to carry out applied research and technology development and to easily roll out the results in practice. In addition, the measurement methods developed by the University of Jyväskylä in Vuokatti are reliable, e.g. the measuring reliability and repeatability of power sensors are guaranteed by cooperation with VTT-MIKES. The University of Jyväskylä is part of the CEMIS consortium, which includes multidisciplinary expertise in the form of five different universities or research organisations. This cooperation network enables rapid reaction and the seeking of necessary expertise for the needs of various corporate fields. With the Masters programme of sports technology carried out in Vuokatti under the University of Jyväskylä, we can also offer students for corporate and other projects free of charge.
Regional impact is achieved with cooperation – the sports testing methods developed by the Vuokatti sports technology unit of the University of Jyväskylä are brought into part of the Vuokatti services in a determined way. This will promote sports tourism and attraction of the region especially at the international level.
The University offers research services and, depending on the setting and necessary methods, the TRL level is 6-8.
When Vuokatti Sport is offering the services, the TRL level is 8-9. In addition, the conditions of the Vuokatti Sport Olympic Training Centre are of top class, and these are developed constantly, such as snowmaking expertise (first-snow ski track) and the development of international level training and competition conditions.
Available equipment
The sports technology unit is using technological solutions and equipment for different needs, such as ski laboratory equipped with, e.g. movement analysis system and breathing gas analyser, as well as different power sensors. In addition, the Vuokatti unit is using physiology and biomechanics laboratories with necessary equipment for the study of sports biology.
